Jeanne McKnight, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.  Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021 in the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada.  Interment will follow at Floyd County Memorial Park.  Visitation was from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home.  Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Jeanne was born June 21, 1926, in Plainview, TX to Earl Sr. and Lola (Porterfield) Edwards. Jeanne married Maxey McKnight on August 5, 1949 on her family’s farm near Lakeview, Texas just outside of Floydada. Jeanne and her husband Maxey met while attending college at Texas Tech University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education in.  Later in her career, she received her master’s degree in education from South Western Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.

Following college, Jeanne taught first grade for 29 years at Kress Elementary in Kress, TX.  She was an avid member of the Kress United Methodist Church.  She loved sewing and knitting and spent countless hours making her own clothes.  Jeanne loved reading her Bible and read it cover to cover every year.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Maxey Dell McKnight, her parents, Earl Edwards Sr. and Lola (Porterfield) Edwards, one sister, Ara Sue (Edwards) Fite, and one brother Willis Earl Edwards Jr.

Jeanne is survived by her son, Dell McKnight and his wife, Brenda, of Abilene; son, Robert McKnight and his wife, Amy, of Haskell; five grandchildren: Michael McKnight and his wife, Mandy, of Flower Mound, Texas; David McKnight and his wife, Angela of Abilene, Texas; Katie Negen and her husband, Chris, of Lubbock, Texas; Mollie Young and her husband, Chance, of Rockwall, Texas; and Jonathan McKnight and wife, Mandy of Abilene, Texas; great-grandchildren, Emerson and Maddie of Flower Mound; Levi and Asher of Abilene; Elizabeth of Lubbock; Declan of Rockwall; and Noah of Abilene.

If desired, memorials can be given in Jeanne’s name to the Kress United Methodist Church, 100 Nicholson Ave., Kress, Texas, 79052.
