After two years, the Record launches new website

FLOYD COUNTY — The Floyd County Record (FCR) was launched on November 1, 2019, as a new reliable source for daily news and information for the communities of Lockney and Floydada.

With the two-year anniversary of the Record approaching, “we decided to redesign our site to be cleaner and more user-friendly for our readers” FCR Editor Alex Driggars explains. “Our new site makes it easier for our readers to access ‘Local. News. Now.’ and for our staff to create that content.”

Driggars took the reins of the only locally-owned news source from Deon Fincher, who created and launched the site after having spent time with the Floyd County Hesperian-Beacon and the Floydada Chamber of Commerce.

In the past year, the Record has welcomed Nick Long, a long-time Floyd County resident, former President of the Floyd County Friends, and general sports enthusiast. His in-depth coverage of Lockney Longhorn and Lady Horn sports as well as Floydada Whirlwind and Lady Wind sports is unparalleled.

As the region grappled with mandatory changes based on the coronavirus outbreak, the Record worked with Dr. Gilbert Trevino (Floydada Collegiate ISD) to ensure many of the Floydada varsity games would be broadcast not just on the radio, but via video for those unable to attend. Those broadcasts continue today with every football game and many of the upcoming basketball games available on the new FCR website, and via YouTube.

Ryan Crowe, a longtime television news producer and experienced print journalist, has also been instrumental to the Record’s success of late. Ryan has stepped up and brought his expertise in reporting and keen photographic eye to support the Record’s newsgathering efforts as a staff writer and photographer.

Looking back is always important, but focusing on what’s ahead is much more productive, which is why Driggars says to stay tuned. “I’m excited for the future of the Record. We already provide small-town news coverage that rivals that of much larger communities, and I only expect to expand and grow that moving forward.”

The Record is an advertiser-supported site, so please support the local businesses that make this content available every day.
