James Edward Bussey (Petersburg)

James Edward Bussey, 79, of Petersburg passed away on November 10, 2021, in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 12, 2021, at Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

James was born October 16, 1942, in Childress, Texas to Eddie and Lela (Weedin) Bussey. James served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Vietnam War. He attended South Plains College and then graduated with his master’s degree at Texas Tech University. James married Sharon Cobb on May 24, 1967, in Clovis NM. He was a teacher in Hale Center before moving to Petersburg where he was the High School counselor for 32 years. After retiring in 2006, he worked at other schools in the area including Lockney, Idalou, Floydada, and Crosbyton. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was saved and accepted the Lord when he was eight years old. James loved fishing, reading, and watching television. He was a big football fan, especially his Red Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys. Most of all, he loved God, his family, his friends, his students, and his dog Frankie.

James is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Jeanette Bussey, Peggy Bussey Carpenter, and his daughter, Susan Kay Bussey.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Bussey of Petersburg; his daughter, Jennifer Bussey of Clovis; his son, Greg Bussey of Petersburg and his sister-in-law, Rhonda Graham of Lubbock.
