Muleshoe Mules – 65, Lockney Longhorns – 62

MULESHOE — The Lockney Longhorns (2-2) suffered their most disappointing loss of the season when a Muleshoe player sank a desperation shot from mid-court at the buzzer to beat the Horns 65-62 at the Mules Gym on Tuesday night.

It appeared the game was about to go into overtime when the amazing 3-point launch unfolded. The Longhorns have now dropped their last two outings after starting out the season at 2-0. Muleshoe evens its record to 1-1.

Next: The Longhorns will play in the Tahoka Tournament this Thursday through Saturday. Lockney’s first game will be at 3 p.m. Thursday against Lubbock Kingdom Prep Academy (2-0). Muleshoe Lady Mules – 56, Lockney Lady Horns – 37

MULESHOE — The Muleshoe Lady Mules (5-2) took the lead early in the game and pretty much kept the Lady Longhorns (8-3) at arms length the entire contest in a 56-37 win on Tuesday at the Mules Gym. The Lady Mules outscored Lockney in all four quarters.

The Lady Horns top three scorers had their typical outing with senior Gabriella Cervantes scoring 13, junior Adrianna Villarreal had 12, and Mariah Ascnesio contributed 10. This was very close to the trio’s scoring average, but the remainder of the team was held virtually silent. Villarreal and Haven Walker were Lockney’s top rebounders with six apiece.

The loss snapped a two game winning streak by the Lady Horns.
