LOCKNEY — A piece of land owned by Lockney ISD was put to work to help fund scholarships for FFA students this cotton season.

A group of volunteers came together to provide materials and farm the 29 acres, located adjacent to the LISD Career & Vocational Center. Seed, chemical, labor and ginning service was all donated for the project.

“We are very grateful to Heath Rexrode for his donation of labor and materials, Wilbur-Ellis and Monty Hoelting for their donated services and materials, and the Lockney Coop Gin for their donation of ginning services. We would also like to thank the buyers who offered $1.10/lb. for the crop,” Lockney superintendent Jim Baum wrote in an email to the Record Tuesday.

All of the proceeds from the cotton crop will benefit the Lockney FFA Booster Club scholarship fund.

“Thank you to all of the volunteers for your support of Ag education in our District.  This is just part of what makes Lockney special,” Baum said.
