LOCKNEY — The Lockney City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on redistricting the city’s council wards at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

2020 Census numbers determined that the population between Lockney’s city council wards is out of balance and must be redistricted to comply with federal voting rights law.

The council will evaluate three plans, prepared by law firm Allison, Bass & Magee, and will also consider any alternate plans presented. One of the alternate options that will likely come up is a shift to at-large representation, a move that the council favored but the city’s legal counsel advised against during the December regular meeting.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the council will also hear the Lockney Police Department’s 2021 racial profiling report.
