LUBBOCK, TX – For the past 18 months, sales of small utility tractors have been red-hot, due in part to coronavirus lockdowns and an increasing amount of time for hobby and small farmers to spend on their land.
However, a bounce in net farm income for larger producers has led to gains of more than 10 percent in every segment for tractors and combines in 2021 says Curt Blades with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).
Sales of two-wheel drive tractors with more than 100 horsepower have increased by 24.1 percent over the past year leading all tractor segments. Tractors with 40 to 100 horsepower experienced gains of 10.3 percent, while the smaller utility tractors (under 40 horsepower) averaged just under 9 percent year-over-year growth.
Sales of four-wheel-drive tractors increased 18.3 percent over 2020 and helped push sales of all tractors, nationwide, up 10.3 percent.
Finally, Blades explains, the market for combines in the U.S. remains hot with more than 6,200 units sold in 2021, equal to a 24.7 percent year-over-year increase.
