FLOYDADA – Teachers who plan on staying with Floydada Collegiate ISD next school year will be rewarded for their loyalty to the district with a $3,000 retention ‘bonus’ payment if they sign their renewal contracts when they are sent out over the next few weeks. The payments will be given to current employees in April.
The district approved the plan that will also pay part-time staffers a $1,500 stipend during Thursday night’s board meeting. New staff that is hired and will begin in the fall will also receive payment as a “recruitment/relocation” payment in September.
The money will come from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds awarded to the district by the U.S. Department of Education as part of the government’s coronavirus aid relief program.
The plan was approved unanimously. Superintendent Gilbert Trevino praised the decision as a way to reward the staff that is staying with the district and to bring new, qualified candidates into the district.

Another main part of the meeting was the approval of the 2022-2023 school calendar, with the first day of school set for August 23 and the last day May 24. Students will have a full week off at Thanksgiving, two weeks during the Christmas holiday and spring break the week of March 13.
The board also recognized students and staff during Thursday night’s meeting, including A.B. Duncan Elementary first graders Benito Perez, Isabel Martinez, and Roxanne Ybarra Lamas; 5th grader Brooklyn Pyle, 5th grade teacher Jordan Beedy and support staff member Alicia Briones.
The secondary campus recognized 6th graders Mia Casares and Darren Pleasant, Junior Izaih Alvarado and Senior Mary Strange. The educator of the month was 6th grade reading teacher Tara Price.
The next board meeting is set for April 14 at 7:00 p.m.
