Lady Winds regional quarterfinal moved to Plainview

FLOYDADA – The Lady Winds softball team is learning to adapt as the location for Friday’s Regional Quarterfinal has changed.

On Tuesday FCISD Superintendent Gilbert Trevino told the Record the game will take place in Plainview on Friday against the Clarendon Lady Broncos.

Game one of the series will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday at Lady Bulldogs Park off 24th & Yonkers in Plainview. Game two will follow.

If needed, game three will take place on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

Floydada (30-3-1) picked up their 30th win of the season after sweeping Sunray 4-3 and 9-4 last Friday. The Lady Winds are returning to the regional quarterfinals for the fourth time since 2018. Last season the Lady Winds suffered their only two defeats of the year by dropping their regional series with the Forsan Lady Buffs. The only time Floydada advanced past the regional round was in 2019.

This Friday will be the first time Clarendon (16-3) has advanced to the third round since 2008 when they were eliminated by Marfa. The Lady Broncos got their biggest win of the season last Thursday by knocking off Forsan 9-2 in a one-game playoff at Littlefield.

Clarendon is reported be to a young team that rotates three pitchers. The trio of hurlers includes Maddison Smith (7-0), Kennadie Cummins (5-2) and Tandie Cummins (4-1). The Lady Broncos have been in the softball playoffs 11 of the last 15 years.

Clarendon is runner up of district 1-2A behind the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles. The Lady Broncos split their two meetings with Sunray in district, winning 8-4 and losing 9-5. Clarendon shutdown Quanah in bi-district by a 25-0 score. The Lady Broncos have been outscoring their opponents by a 14-3 average score this season.

Floydada swept the Post Lady Antelopes in bi-district by scores of 10-0 and 20-0. Erin Trevino has thrown 44 strikeouts in the four playoff games to raise her season total to 228 K’s. The Lady Winds have outhit their opponents by a 44-12 margin in the playoffs.

106.1 FLiP FM will have the broadcast of the double-header on Friday, and Game 3 on Saturday if necessary. The winner of this series will go against the winner of the Stamford Lady Bulldogs (21-4) and the Haskell Maidens (10-8) in the Region 1-2A semifinals.
