MUNCY – Dance all night, dance a little longer, or just sit and visit with the neighbors and friends. Music from Wendell Sollis and the Sidekicks All Star Band will liven up the Floyd County Friends Unity Center on Friday, July 8.

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with a catered meal by River Smith’s. The night’s other festivities will include auctions, drawings, vendors, and a complimentary gourmet coffee bar.

“This is an awesome band, performing western swing, classical country, cajun and big band favorites,” said Sollis, a veteran banjo player, performing since the 70s. His show credits include Six Flags Over Texas, Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium, and Quartz Mountain Resort in Oklahoma. He has performed with Texas Sand, the Texas Playboys and now leads the Sidekicks.

The band is made up of Ronny Dale Shultz on guitar and vocals, with Kelly Hastey joining on guitar. Steel guitar player Bob Baker, trombonist Steve Ham, Steve Wilkerson on the clarinet/tenor sax and Mike Bennett on trumpet make up just some of the players.

Rodney Lay will be on bass, fiddlers will be Greg Gibbs and Brady Rasco, and Ginny Mac will round out the group on accordion. Chad Maines will play drums. 98-year-old Lucy Dean Record, a Lockney legend, will be featured on the piano.

The dance, first hosted last summer as “Christmas in July” is a fundraiser for the Lockney and Floydada Volunteer Fire Departments, with both receiving $5,000 from last year’s event.

Sollis also hosts the annual Christmas Ball at the Unity Center each December.

Tickets for the event are $50 per person or $400 for a table. There is a $15 charge to bring your own beer. You can purchase tickets at D&J Gin in Lockney or Payne Pharmacy in Floydada. You can also call Dustee Sollis at (806) 983-6228.
