PLAINVIEW – The Floydada Lady Winds basketball team concluded their active summer schedule by taking second place at Wayland Baptist University’s Jason Cooper Basketball Camp last week.

In individual competition, Floydada’s Zay Santos won second place in ball handling skills and Kaitlyn Ramirez finished second in the three-point shooting contest. The previous Saturday the Lady Winds went 3-0 to win the Whirlwind Shootout in Floydada.

“The team is really jelling together. I have been seeing them improve individually throughout the summer. I am noticing growth of their skills,” explained Lady Winds coach Adam Zepeda. “I am excited where we are right now. The number player is good. It’s been a fun summer.”

Floydada shared the district 3-2A championship with Hale Center in 2022 by grabbing 19 wins. The Lady Winds lost two starters from that team to graduation.

Lady Winds summer results:
Slaton Camp – 1st place (7-0)
Summer League – 2nd place (6-1)
Whirlwind Shootout – 1st place (3-0)
WBU Camp – 2nd place (6-1)
