FRITCH – New Lockney football head coach Jonathan Thiebaud liked what he saw in the Longhorns first football scrimmage of the pre-season on Friday night.

The contest ended up in a 0-0 tie as neither team was able to break a big scoring play or finish a sustained drive. “I thought we did pretty well in our first outing against an opponent. Our conditioning was good and thanks to being able to showcase our team depth, we were still playing very strong at the end. Another bright point was no injuries,” Thiebaud told the Record.

“Our defense made a strong collective effort. I thought our tackling was very good and we kept a physical style of play throughout the srimmage. I was pleased with the offense. Running back Xavier Jimenez had some good runs thanks to blocking by the offense line. Dyllan Thiebaud made some nice passes plus executed the offense good for our first outing. The offense moved the ball on multiple occassions, but were stopped on a pair of crucial third downs that stopped the drive as there are no fourth
downs in scrimmages, ” Thiebaud noted. Jimenez and Thiebaud are both sophomores in the Horns backfield.

Thiebaud praised Sanford-Fritch for their effort and physical play, noting they gave Lockney some solid competition.

Lockney will host the Boys Ranch Roughriders in their second scrimmage on Thursday at Mitchell-Zimmerman Stadium beginning at 5:00 p.m. Thiebaud noted he will be looking for improvement in the second scrimmage as they will add some more plays to their arsenal.
