LUBBOCK, TX – A Floydada-native and her son lost their lives Wednesday afternoon in a two-car accident in Lubbock.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, 44-year-old Joni Smith was at an intersection preparing to turn west on 114th Street when her car was struck head-on by a pickup traveling southbound on Indiana Avenue at 4:54 pm.

Smith’s 9-year-old son, Conrad Thomlinson, died at the scene, and though his mother was transported to University Medical Center via ambulance, she was later pronounced deceased.

In addition, Smith’s two other children in the car sustained injuries in the wreck: an 11-year-old son was listed in serious condition, and her 3-year-old son was treated for minor injuries.

All occupants in both vehicles were properly restrained, and the Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit continues to investigate the accident.
