Floydada man injured in fatal crash outside Lorenzo

LORENZO – A Floydada man is recovering after he was involved in a crash that killed one person Monday afternoon east of Lorenzo.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety officials, 38-year-old Enrique Martinez of Floydada was driving his 1999 Honda CR-V eastbound toward Lorenzo along Highway 62/82 when the SUV rear-ended a 2015 Hyundai Tucson parked on the shoulder of the highway one mile east of the town just before 3:00 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the Tucson, 71-year-old William Reese Brunt Jr. of Fairfield, was killed in the crash. His three passengers were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center in Lubbock what Troopers described as ‘Non-Incapacitating injuries.’

Martinez was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Troopers also described his injuries as ‘Non-Incapacitating.’

The crash remains under investigation.
