Commissioners adopt 2023 tax rate, approve deputy hires

FLOYDADA – Following a public hearing with no members of the public present, Floyd County Commissioners adopted the 2023 tax rate for the county earlier this week.

The rate, set at $0.656 cents on $100 valuation in property tax, takes effect in January for a budget set late last month.

Commissioners approved the rate on a 5-0 voice vote.

Commissioners also approved the hiring of two new sheriff’s deputies. Bryan Valencia and Joe Angel Franco. Valencia, from Olton, previously served in Lamb County. Franco, a Lockney native, recently graduated from the South Plains College police academy.

Following Monday’s meeting commissioners began interviewing for the Floyd County Librarian position, with the second round of interviewees set for the upcoming week.

The next Floyd County Commissioners court hearing is set for Monday, Sept. 12 at 8:00 a.m.
