FLOYDADA – County Commissioners were ready to put Fiscal Year 2022 to bed Friday morning, after a number of tax meetings and budget hearings that had gone on since August 1. Friday marked the close of business for the year, and commissioners had to ‘put a bow’ on squaring up accounts.

Judge Marty Lucke took the opportunity to praise county staffers for coming in under budget for the year, calling it a “100 percent testament to our department heads” that the budget had a surplus of roughly $400,000.

Commissioners also took action on a resolution from the County Judges & Commissioners Association of Texas calling for the state to give counties funds for state mandated services.

The cities of Floydada and Lockney are set to meet Tuesday to finalize their budget years. Lockney’s City Council will meet at 7:00 a.m. at the Lockney Community Center. Floydada will vote to adopt their tax rate with a hearing at 6:00 p.m., followed by a full council meeting at 6:30. Both of those meetings will be held in council chambers at Floydada City Hall.
