FLOYDADA – Two city council seats and the Mayor’s chair are up for election later this year, and the filing window for those seats is now open.

Districts 2 and 3, currently held by Steve Lloyd and Dana Crossland, as well as the Mayor Bobby Gilliland’s seat will be decided in the city’s May 6 general election. According to City Secretary Patty Lowrance, interested residents have until February 17 to file to run for the positions.

The city council set the election Tuesday night as part of their regular January meeting. They also approved contracting election services from the county for the election as the city does not own voting equipment.

Also discussed in the meeting, the council approved the condemnation of a home at 230 W. Virginia and the closure of alleyways between Ninth and Eleventh streets along East Georgia street.

The council also awarded the Floydada Little League $1,200 in Hotel Occupancy Tax funds for their upcoming season.

The meeting ended with Mayor Pro-Tem Gabe DeLaFuente quoting Mayor Gilliland in saying “Peace and Harmony Prevails.”

The next Floydada City Council meeting is set for February 21 at 6:30 p.m.
