FLOYD COUNTY, TX – West Texas winds kept flags flying on Presidents’ Day, as 50.4 mph gusts blew dust across the county Monday.

Those winds, recorded during the noon hour, were part of a system moving through the region that provided 64mph winds in Hereford and 58 mph gusts off the Caprock in Quitaque.

The entire Panhandle and South Plains remain in a historic drought where every county is experiencing at least severe drought (D2). Some along the Oklahoma Panhandle are now in exceptional drought (D4).

Though only 55 percent of the state is dealing with drought (23 percent less than one year ago), the levels of drought across West Texas continue to intensify.
