Is it time to let go?

That’s a question we will ask, or be asked, throughout our life, usually in relation to something difficult we’ve been dealing with, but how often do we answer this question regarding our “spiritual calling”?

We may have volunteered to pass the offering plate, play an instrument, teach a class, or greet others at the front door for quite some time and continue to do so for fear that no one else will step up to do the job.

In Numbers 8:24-26, the passage was regarding the Levites, those called and commanded by God to serve the other eleven tribes of Israel.

“Men twenty-five years of age or older shall enter to perform the service in the work at the Tent of Meeting. But at the age of fifty, they must retire from performing the work and no longer serve. After that, they may assist their brothers in fulfilling their duties at the Tent of Meeting, but they themselves are not to do the work. This is how you are to assign responsibilities to the Levites.”

This command was not because of a lack of effectiveness but rather as an opportunity to train the next group of leaders and ensure the current leadership didn’t burn out.

It’s not our place to determine whether adequate or available servants are behind us; it’s our place to allow the Lord to impress upon them the duties that need to be done.
