FLOYDADA — St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Floydada is holding its annual jamaica this Saturday from noon until 10 p.m. The event is a fundraiser and all proceeds benefit the parish.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with a car show. Entries are open to all types of vehicles with a $25 entry fee.
Food vendors will begin serving around noon with a live DJ also performing at that time. Some of the available food options include fajitas, gorditas, tamales, elotes, menudo, cotton candy, snow cones, lemonade and aguas frescas, to name just a few.
Also beginning at noon is a team washer pitching tournament. Bounce houses and a water slide will be on site for the kids to enjoy at that time, and a silent auction will be held throughout.
One of the biggest drawing factors for community members might be the door prizes. Church members will award someone with a door prize every half-hour throughout the duration of the event, according to event coordinator Reuben Ramon. Patrons must be present to win door prizes.
Door prizes include a $50 gas card, grocery gift cards, free haircuts, oil changes, food items and more. “Everybody’s been good to us as far as donations go,” Ramon said.
Musical performances are another draw to the event, with a number of regional artists performing at the jamaica. Beginning at 3 p.m., mariachi group El Trio Aguilar will play. Then from 6 10 p.m., Ricardo Gutierrez y Grupo Rival, Conjunto Malo, and Los Pibes will perform.
“Everybody come out and have a good time,” Ramon said. “Bring your lawn chairs and come out and have a good time.”
