LOCKNEY — Cory McCombs is so anxious to get his tenure underway as the Lockney Longhorns’ new head football coach that the very first practice will be at midnight that morning. Midnight Madness starts at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, August 2.
“We have had very good participation by the Lockney high school and junior athletes in the summer conditioning sessions, and we ready to get down to business to prepare for the 2021 football season,” McCombs said.
Here is the schedule of events for HS football players as pre-season drills are just around the corner:
Friday, July 30 — HS players issued equipment at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday, July 31 — JH players issued equipment at 10:30 a.m.
Monday, August 2 — Midnight Madness practice from 12:01 a.m. until 1:30 a.m.
Monday, August 2 — Thursday, August 5 – Daily practices in shorts and helmets 4 – 9 p.m.
Friday, August 6 — First practice in pads with contact 4 – 9 p.m.
Saturday, August 7 — Red and Black Scrimmage — Meet the Horns — Photos at 8 a.m./Scrimmage at 9:30 a.m.
Monday August 9 — Thursday, August 12 – Daily practices in full pads 4:00 – 9:00pm
Friday, August 13 — First scrimmage against Sanford-Fritch at Mitchell-Zimmerman Field
Thursday, August 19 — Second scrimmage at Hale Center
Friday, August 27 — Regular season opener at Ropes Eagles
