KANSAS CITY, Mo. — While there may not be any more farmers today than ten years ago, there are more workers in agriculture.
According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, wage and salary employment in agriculture was stable in the 2000s but by 2010 started to gradually increase (1.07 million jobs) and by 2020 (1.17 million jobs) had added 9 percent more jobs in the U.S. ag industry.
The fastest rate of growth was in the livestock sector (18 percent) which added more than 41,000 jobs, and 38,000 in crop support services (13 percent increase).
By comparison, the report shows that hired farm workers remained essentially unchanged.
