LUBBOCK — The Lockney high school cross country team will run their first official invitational meet this Saturday at LCU’s Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course.

Chaparral Ridge is on the campus of Lubbock Christian University but gives a feel of being out in the country. The course includes a lake obstacle, an old west path of a wire fence and going thru a western style cedar post gate, man-made hills, open range, etc.

Lockney ran this course in their only meet at LCU in the Rust Busters Relays that included legs of 1.5 miles each by two runners. It was not a typical cross country meet of boys running three mile-race, and the girls taking on a two-mile course.

Floydada was also scheduled to run at LCU this Saturday, but has scratched. The Whirlwinds will compete in the Roosevelt Cross Country Meet next Tuesday afternoon. Floydada took part in the West Texas A&M Twilight run on Thursday, August 26. That meet was run around the WT athletic facilities at sunset and finished under the lights at Buffalo Stadium. WT is the only night race that the Whirlwind cross country team will take part in this fall.

Both Lockney and Floydada are expected to take their full teams to the LCU and Roosevelt meets respectively.
