John Redding (Floydada)

John Wesley “Johnny” Reddingage 80, of Floydada, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 3, 2021.  A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery in Floyd County, Texas. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Moore-Rose Funeral Home. Lunch will be at 11:00 a.m., at the Wayne Russell RV Pavilion.  Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

John Redding was born November 29, 1940, in Roaring Springs, Texas, to Wesley and Dorothy (Anderson) Redding.  He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Perkins DD877 in the South China Sea and West PAC.  He installed carpet for 23 years then retired from the US Postal Service after 25 years of service and started raising cattle.  Johnny was married to his wife, Carolyn Dunavant for 53 years.  He loved God, his country, his family, archeology, hunting, fishing, painting Southwestern art and his companion, Julie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Dorothy; two brothers, Doyle and Roy; and two sisters, Zelma and Hazel.

John Redding is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Floydada; two children, Rebecca (Lee) Bertleson of Plainview, and Matthew (Nicole) Redding of Keller, Texas; five grandchildren, Katelyn, Reagan, Emma, John Robert, and Henry; a sister, Faye (Haney) Poynor of Lubbock; a sister-in-law, Joyce Redding of Crosbyton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may by made to the Plains Art Association/Abraham Arts Gallery, Plainview, Texas.
