LOCKNEY — The Lockney Longhorns took a much-deserved break from its 2021 football schedule with an open date this past Friday. The Longhorns (6-1, 1-0) had played nine consecutive weekends since its first scrimmage on August 13.

While Lockney was idle, it was able to stay in a tie for first place in District 5-2A-II with Roscoe Plowboys with 1-0 records in district. The Longhorns and Plowboys also have identical season records of 6-1. Roscoe got a big win against the Ralls Jackrabbits 26-14. Ralls is now tied with Crosbyton for third place in the district standings as the Chieftains shut out the Hamlin Pied Pipers 20-0.

Lockney will travel to Hamlin this Friday to take on the Pied Pipers (0-7, 0-2). The Longhorns will conclude the regular season with a home game against Roscoe on October 29, and a road trip to Ralls on November 5. One more win should clinch a playoff berth for the second straight season for Lockney.
