Lockney travels to Hamlin Friday in search of playoff berth

HAMLIN, Texas — The Lockney Longhorns (6-1, 1-0) are one win away from clinching a state playoff berth for the second consecutive year when they to travel to Hamlin to play the Pied Pipers (0-7, 0-2) this Friday at Piper Stadium.

Lockney is on a six-game winning streak and tied for first place in the District 5-2A-II standings with the Roscoe Plowboys (6-1, 1-0). In this week’s Harris Ratings, Roscoe, Ralls and Lockney are all within one touchdown of each other heading into the home stretch.

Senior quarterback Pablo Morales, in his fourth year as a starter, has developed into a dual-threat player by passing for 371 yards and three touchdowns, while getting into the end zone six times with his legs. Seniors Nathan Ceniceros and Elias Alvarez have been a solid one-two punch at running backs. Ceniceros has 555 yards and six touchdowns, while Alvarez has added 436 yards and scored three times. The trio of Austin Rodriguez, Ian Rodriguez and Jesus Gonzales have 316 yards combined rushing. Gonzales is the Longhorns’ leading receiver with 172 yards.

Lockney’s aggressive defense has been a key force with 32 take-aways from their opponents. The Longhorns have been outscoring their foes 37-10 thus far this season.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. this Friday at Hamlin.
