POST — The Floydada Whirlwinds (2-5, 1-1) will attempt to regroup and return to the win column when they take on the Post Bold Gold Antelopes (1-6, 0-2) this Friday at Jimmie Redman Memorial Stadium.

After two consecutive appearances in the 2A State Championship games in 2019 and 2020, Post has had its struggles in 2021. They have been outscored by their opponents with an average margin of 20-9 this season. Post has played a tough schedule that has a combined record of 35-15 (Forsan and Abernathy are both 7-0, New Deal is 6-1, plus Tolar and Sundown have 5-2 records).

Despite the down year, Post still has quality players including junior LB/RB Isaih Crawford (6’3”, 210 pounds) and TE/DE Zach Courtney (6’7”, 235 pounds), both Division I commits to play football collegiately. Crawford has given his verbal commitment to Baylor in the Big 12; Courtney has said he was going to Colorado in the PAC-12.

The Bold Gold does not have as big an offensive line as Sundown that the Whirlwinds battled last week, but the Antelopes average 226 pounds per man in the trenches. Defense has been a strong suit for Post and they have a quality linebacker corps in Crawford, Steve Gonzales, Shawn Looney and Jonathan Rodriguez.

The Whirlwinds are led by senior quarterback Trace Glasscock with 793 yards passing. The running game has a pair of juniors in Andres Mendoza and Izaiah Alvarado that rushed for a combined 665 yards and 12 touchdowns. Saul Reyes is top receiver with 326 yards.

Alvarado continues to lead the team with 80 tackles from his inside linebacker position. Jayson Cooper is next with 70 stops. Linebackers Aiden Trevino, Davian Ramos and Hagen Hinsley have 118 tackles as a unit. Hinsley leads the defense with 10 tackles for loss.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Post. 106.1 FLiP FM will have the radio broadcast, and a live stream with video and audio will be available at www.floydcountyrecord.com/live
