LUBBOCK — Cross country runners from the eight districts that comprise Region I-2A will invade Lubbock this Monday for the Region I meet at Mae Simmons Park. Floydada and Lockney both have girls teams of five in the meet, plus the Longhorns have two boys that qualified as individuals out of District 4-2A.
New Deal won the boys and girls 4-2A titles, while Floydada and Lockney finished second and third respectively in the girls division. Lockney boys Jonathan Cienfuegos and Alberto Soto-Gonazles advanced by finishing in the top 10 individual standings.
The Lady Horns were led by Maddison Johnson with a seventh place finish at district, while the Lady Winds’ Allyson Romero and Faith Lopez both finished in the top 10 at ninth and tenth respectively.
Each team will have five entries that will compete. The best four times count toward the team score, while the number five finisher could serve as a tie-breaker if necessary. The top four teams and the top 10 individuals that are not on a qualifying team will advance to the Texas UIL State Country Meet in Austin on November 5-6.
