Local schools to honor veterans on Thursday

FLOYD COUNTY — Veterans day is this week on Thursday, and a few ceremonies to celebrate those who have fought for our country are taking place in Floydada and Lockney that day.

In Lockney, the day will begin with a reception for veterans from 8:15 to 9 a.m. At 9, the Lockney High School Student Council will hold an assembly in the gymnasium. That assembly is open to the public. The student council will also be placing flags around town on Thursday morning.

Then, at 10 a.m., Floydada Collegiate High School will be honoring veterans with a Veteran’s Day celebration at the Floydada Performing Arts Center, 215 N. White St. Valet parking is available, and refreshments will be served afterwards in the cafeteria.

Finally, a wreath laying ceremony will honor fallen veterans at 11:30 a.m. at the Floyd County Courthouse memorial. For more information on this ceremony, call (806) 983-4970.
