CANYON — An FFA Agricultural Advocacy team from Floydada placed fifth at the area competition at West Texas A&M University on Saturday.

The team consisting of five freshmen — Mia Snowden, Allyson Romero, Kirsten Pyle, Miranda Reyes, and Sydni Chesshir — competed in a field of 12 teams with their presentation on Floydada pumpkins. The girls advanced to the area competition by earning high marks at the district contest in Abernathy earlier this month, and was the only group of FFA students from Floyd County to make Area.

With the fifth place showing, the group was three spots shy of qualifying for state.
