MATADOR — The Motley County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a potential police impersonator attempting to pull over vehicles in the county.

The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Tuesday night just after 10 p.m. from a motorist that reported an unmarked white Chevy Tahoe with red and blue flashing lights was attempting to stop them on South State Highway 70 near Roaring Springs, the agency said in a statement Wednesday.

Motley County does not use unmarked patrol units or Chevy Tahoes, officials added.

One Floyd County resident told the Record that they had spotted a similar vehicle with red and blue lights flashing near Dougherty around 7:30 Tuesday night.

Motley County officials advise the public to call 911 and explain the situation to the dispatcher if unsure whether a vehicle is a law enforcement officer or an imposter.

For non-emergency calls, the Motley County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at (806) 347-2234. The number for the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is (806) 983-4901.
