Whirlwinds claim Classic Championship and improve to 11-0

FLOYDADA — The Floydada Whirlwinds (11-0) added another tournament championship trophy to their resume for the 2021-22 boys basketball season by going 4-0 to win the Whirlwind Classic at Whirlwind Gym Thursday through Saturday. Whirlwinds won the Tahoka Tourney title the weekend before by finishing 3-0.

Floydada’s speed and quickness proved to be the difference in every game in disposing of the the Lubbock Kingdom Prep Warriors 60-41 and Slaton Tigers 71-65 on Thursday, on Friday ran away from the Slaton JV Tigers 58-30, and Saturday beat the Lorenzo Hornets 76-55. The Whirlwinds have now defeated Lorenzo three times this season.

The Whirlwinds starting five made of guards and forwards continued their balanced scoring throughout the four games of the Whirlwind Classic led by junior Abran Castillo with 84 points, freshman Braun Hobbs had 49, sophomore Aiden Trevino with 38, junior Jayson Cooper put in 37 and freshman Ty Henderson contributed 26.
