ARLINGTON — All UIL State Championship football games will be televised this week on Bally Sports Southwest including the Motley County Matadors in 1A-II and the Stratford Elks in 2A-II. All of the championship games will be staged at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The Motley County Matadors (14-0) will go against the Strawn Greyhounds (14-0) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. for the 1A-II six-man title. Motley County has been the No. 1-rated team in 1A-II all season long and since Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s pre-season rankings came out. Strawn is rated No. 2 and has been in the top three since the pre-season. Motley County won its only state championship in 2007. According to www.sixmanfootball.com, Motley County is the favorite going into the championship game.
The Stratford Elks (14-1) will take on the Fall City Beavers (14-1) on Thursday morning at 11 for the 2A-II championship. Stratford entered the playoffs as the No. 5 team by Dave Campbell’s and Falls City was No. 6. Both were top 10 in the pre-season poll and have remained there throughout the course of the season. Stratford’s only loss this season was to the 3A-I Bushland Falcons. The Elks have won state titles in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Harris Ratings Weekly has Stratford picked to win its fourth state championship Thursday.
