RALLS — The Lockney Lady Horns (20-4, 1-0) kept their winning streak going to 12 games and reached the 20-win plateau by holding off the Ralls Lady Jackrabbits 45-44 on Friday in the District 4-2A opener for both teams.
Lockney had a big second quarter with 25-points to build up a 32-19 lead at halftime, and maintained a comparable margin of 40-29 at the end of the third frame. Ralls (3-18) then staged a fourth quarter rally of outscoring the Lady Horns 15-5 and came up short by falling 45-44. Lockney led the the entire game, but Ralls made it interesting down the stretch.
Gabrielle Cervantes was Lockney’s leading scorer with 17 points, followed by Adri Villarreal with 14. Mariah Ascensio was the top rebounder with seven, while Villarreal led the team with six assists and six steals.
“This is the first time the Lockney girls have had a 20-win season in a long time, and it is the first time for me as a head coach to reach this plateau,” said Lady Horns coach Trey Bale.
Lockney will next host their Floyd County rival — the Floydada Lady Winds (13-6) — on Tuesday at Longhorn Gym. Tip-off will be at 6:15 p.m. This will be the district debut for Floydada. The game will be broadcast on KFLP 106.1 FM with a video stream on the Floyd County Record.
