FLOYDADA – Help fight hunger in Floyd County!

The Floyd County Souper Bowl Challenge was kicked off by Mia Snowden on Saturday, January 15. Mia is a 4-H Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador serving Floyd County and the state promoting healthy lifestyles and choices. She was inspired to organize a food drive for her county through the Souper
Bowl of Caring campaign.

Mia decided to make it a competition and she is challenging Floydada and Lockney 4-H and FFA members to see which city can collect the most canned goods. Donations will be collected through February 13, 2022 and can be dropped off at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office in downtown Floydada. Teams will accumulate points based on the number of items collected: 50 cans equal one touchdown, $1 donation equals 1 can donated, and each week the team with the highest weekly collection will receive field goal points.

On February 13 the team with the most points will be declared the Floyd County Souper Bowl Challenge winner. All donations will stay local in Floyd County, going to
either Floydada’s Spirit of Sharing or Lockney’s Salvation Army. The winning team’s
charity will receive 75% of the donations and the losing team’s charity will receive 25%
of the donations. It’s a win-win for Floyd County!

There will be a special collection at the varsity Floydada/Lockney basketball games on
Friday, January 28 with the winner of Friday night’s collection receiving an extra
touchdown.

According to tacklehunger.org Souper Bowl of Caring is a national movement of young people working to fight hunger and poverty in their own communities around the time of the Super Bowl football game. In the weeks leading up to or on Super Bowl Sunday, young people take up a collection, asking for one dollar or one item of food for people
in need. They give 100% of their donation directly to the local hunger-relief charity of
their choice.
