Lockney woman killed in crash north of Idalou

LUBBOCK COUNTY – A Lockney woman is dead following a Tuesday afternoon crash outside of Idalou.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 66-year-old Virginia Hernandez was a passenger in a 1992 Chevy passenger van that crashed along Farm to Market 400 after 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. Hernandez was not wearing a seat belt.

DPS troopers say preliminary reports indicate the crash occurred when the van, driven by 58-year-old Juan Hernandez, left the northbound roadway of FM 400 and struck a concrete culvert.

Two young boys, ages 13 and 9, were also in the van at the time. Both were taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock to be treated for their injuries. Juan Hernandez was treated at the scene.

The accident happened near the intersection with Lubbock County Road 5700 roughly five miles north of Idalou.
