FLOYDADA – A board agenda full of items covering every aspect of the district was on tap at Floydada Collegiate ISD’s administration building Thursday night.

Among the items discussed, the board set a May 7 election date for the seats currently held by Kay Brotherton, Beverly Collins and Eric Smith. The board voted to hold a joint election with the City of Floydada during their municipal election on the same day, as well as approving the use of Floyd County’s voting machines.

The board also heard from Superintendent Gilbert Trevino on the school’s proposed 2022-2023 calendar. Trevino told the board they were still developing two different calendars, but that much of the input had been in favor of a calendar that has teachers reporting back to the district on August 15, with students returning to class on August 22.

Trevino also mentioned other factors for favoring the second calendar option; including a full week off at Thanksgiving, a two-week Christmas break and having a later end to spring semester. He mentioned with the state moving back the STAAR testing dates, it would give students more time between the standardized test and the end of the year. Trevino told the board he expected to have a full presentation on the calendar during the March meeting.

Following a closed session the board reconvened publicly and confirmed one year contract extensions for the district’s administrative team. A five-percent raise was also included with the extension.

The next meeting of the FCISD board is set for March 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the school administration building.
