Lady Winds Softball opener delayed by basketball playoffs

FLOYDADA – Coach Armando Morales confirms Monday’s softball season opener against Lubbock’s Trinity Christian Academy has been cancelled due the Floydada Lady Winds basketball team playing a Bi-District Playoff game against the Olton Fillies at Coronado High School’s gym on 34th Street in Lubbock at 6:00 p.m.

The Lady Winds softball season will now start on Thursday, February 17 at the Slaton Sadler Monument Tournament, with the tournament continuing through Saturday the 19th. Floydada is scheduled to play a total of five games in the tourney. The Lady Winds will take on Tahoka and Trinity Christian on Thursday, followed by contests with 5A Amarillo Tascosa and 3A Brownfield on Friday, and then one game on Saturday against 3A Slaton.

The Lady Winds new home opener will be against Muleshoe on Tuesday, Febuary 22, likely at Annie Taylor Park on the northeast side of the city. Floydada has already played three scrimmages with wins over 4A Estacado 16-7, 3A Muleshoe 7-1, and 4A Trinity Christian 15-1. They have two more scrimmages this Friday at 5A Plainview, and then host 5A Amarillo Palo Duro on Saturday.

Floydada finished with a season record 25-2-1 and the District 4-2A Championship in 2021. Morales is starting his 13th season as the Lady Winds head coach.
