SMYER – The Floydada Whirlwinds offense came alive in the fifth inning to rally for a 10-6 win over the Smyer Bobcats on the road Tuesday. The Whirlwinds (2-1) have now won their last outings by a 16-7 margin.
Smyer got a quick start with four runs in the first inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Whirlwinds would battle back in the third frame with three runs to take their first lead of 5-4. The Bobcats would quickly answer with a pair of scores in the bottom of third to get back in front 6-5.
Floydada had the biggest inning of either team in the fifth when five Whirlwinds came across to score – Saul Reyes, Javier Santos, Davian Ramos, Donovan Rocha and Matthew Luna.
Rocha went the distance on the mound to get his second pitching win of the season.
