Shallowater rallies to beat Longhorns

SHALLOWATER – The Lockney Longhorns may have played their best game of the season despite falling to the 3A Shallowater Mustangs 12-5 on Tuesday at Powell Field next to the railroad tracks that almost touch the outfield fence. Shallowater (9-0-1) had to rally from a 5-4 deficit by scoring eight runs in the fifth inning to finally put away the scrappy Longhorns (4-3).

It was a very well played game through the top of the fifth. Lockney held leads of 4-2 in the fourth and 5-4 after their half of the fifth frame. Pitcher Pablo Morales kept Lockney in the game by throwing 5.2-innings. The Horns scratched and clawed offensively with Morales, Austin Rodriguez and Dyllan Thiebaud getting two hits each.

Shallowater used five pitchers in the game with Brooks Carter getting the win by closing the final 1.1-innings. Kohle Kerin was the offensive spark for the Mustangs by going 4-4 at the plate with a three run homer and a double to produced an impressive seven RB. Carter had a pair of doubles and two RBI.

The loss snapped a four game winning streak of the Longhorns.
