Winds quick start ignites win over Crosbyton

FLOYDADA – The Floydada Whirlwinds came out strong by scoring runs in the first three innings and then held the Crosbyton Chiefs at arm’s length to take a 8-5 win at Watson Field on Tuesday. It was Floydada’s biggest offensive production of the baseball season by racking up 13-hits.

Andres Mendoza got things going for the Whirlwinds (3-5) in the first inning with a leadoff double. Floydada then pushed across three runs after two outs had been made highlighted by a Javier Santos RBI single, and a two RBI double by Izaiah Alvarado.

The Whirlwinds then had a similar fourth inning that resulted in four runs. Matthew Luna got on with a double followed by a Mendoza RBI single. Saul Reyes hit a RBI sacrifice fly to center field. Donovan Rocha slapped a run scoring triple to centerfield and then Santos drove in another run with a single.

Trace Glasscock pitched the initial 3.2 innngs by giving up four runs on four hits and threw four strikeouts. Davian Ramos got the win of 3.1 innings of relief by allowing one run on two hits and also recorded four strikeouts. Floydada got solid pitching out of the duo.
