FLOYDADA – “It ain’t over ’til it’s over,” the historic baseball quote by Yogi Berra, came to reality in a thrilling 10-9 win by the Floydada Whirlwinds over the Post Bold Gold Antelopes at Watson Field on Tuesday. Floydada pulled out the win in a real unique sequence of events that included just one hit for the Whirlwinds to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Post had three costly errors, a walk and game winning run by Floydada was scored on a wild pitch.
The Whirlwinds led the majority of the game and possessed a 7-4 lead going to the seventh inning. Post then scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-7 lead, and then virtually gave the game back to Floydada when the Antelopes made mistakes in a variety of ways.
Regardless, Floydada will take the win for their fourth straight and continues to hold onto third place in the 3-2A baseball standings.
Ryan Perez was 3-3 at the plate for Floydada including a double and produced a team high three RBI. Izaiah Alvardo had a pair of singles and scored three runs.
Donovan Rocha got the win going 6.2-innings. Rocha was tagged for nine runs on 12-hits, but he did not give up a walk and hurled nine strike-outs. The Bold Gold offense hit four doubles.
The Whirlwinds and Antelopes will resume their two game series at Norm Cash Field in Post on Saturday. 106.1 FLiP FM will have the broadcast.
