Lady Winds Field (Ryan Crowe/FCR)
FLOYDADA – “If you build it, they will come” was a famous quote from the Field of Dreams movie
about a baseball field built in a corn field in Iowa.
Floydada Collegiate ISD this year have built the new Lady Winds Field for softball,
and renovated Watson Field for baseball. Both have artificial turf fields that are popular for
participating schools.
According to FCISD Athletic Director Todd Bandy there will be three playoff series or games at
the new facilities over the next two weekends. This weekend, Seymour will play West Texas-Stinnett
in a 2A best-of-three Bi-Distirct series. Games will be played at 6pm Friday, 12-noon Saturday, with game 3 to follow if necessary.
The weekend of May 5, Borden County will play an opponents (TBD) in a 1A softball series or
game; and there will be a 3A baseball Bi-District series between Idalou and Amarillo River Road. Starting times are still pending.
Lockney installed artificial turf on their baseball and softball diamonds approximately five years
ago, and their diamonds have used frequently by schools across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains.
