Wilson wins Lockney mayor’s race

FLOYD COUNTY – Lockney has a new mayor.

Saturday night Aaron Wilson was announced as the next mayor, defeating Ricardo Basaldua by 10 votes.

Wilson, the current Mayor Pro-Tem, will take over for Michael DeLeon, who did not seek re-election. In a statement to the Record, Wilson said “I appreciate everyone getting out and voting. I will try my best to keep Lockney a great place to live.”

In Floydada, the Sales & Use Tax overwhelmingly passed with 88 percent of voters saying ‘yes’ to extending the current quarter of a cent per $100 tax. The money is collected from sales within the city for road painting and striping, pothole repair and street cleaning.

Meanwhile, according to the Secretary of State’s office the two amendments to the Texas Constitutional are on their way to passing. In Floyd County, residents voted in favor of both by wide margins (85 percent and 72 percent respectively).
