FLOYDADA – The Floydada Lady Winds made it through the 3-2A softball schedule unblemished for
the second consecutive season, so district coaches rewarded them for their work.
Senior Erin Trevino was named the overall district MVP, while senior Clarissa Delafuente was the offensive MVP. Armando Morales was named Coach of the Year and a total of six of his players were placed on the first team, with three more on the second team.
Trevino’s pitching dominated 3-2A in 2022 as she fired two no-hitters and threw five shutouts in district play. For the season, she had a 30-4 record, 286-strikeouts and a stingy
2.85 ERA.
Delafuente utilized her speed at shortstop and on offense, leading the Lady Winds in three offensive categories. She had a .594 batting average, five triples and 34 stolen bases. She
was second on the squad in hits (63), doubles (21) and runs (61).
Floydada’s First Team selections were senior Marissa Obregon (catcher), sophomore Analise Perez
(1B), senior Kailee Sanchez (2B), junior Carissa Fernandez (OF), sophomore Carissa Fernandez (OF),
freshman Soriah Wickware (Designated hitter), and senior Jazmine Coronado (Utillity).
Three other Lady Winds were put on the District’s Second Team – senior Celese Wickware (3B),
junior Kaley Garza (OF), and junior Dani Zavala (OF),
Obregon led the team with 64-hits and 48-RBI. Hernandez was the squad leader in runs (62) and
walks (29). Soriah Wickware had 4-homeruns for a team best.
The senior class reached a school record of 32 wins in a season and were only the second Lady Winds team to advance to the Region 1-2A Semifinals.
Head Coach Armando Morales told the team in their final meeting Tuesday morning that the seniors would be missed but that the program is in a good place. “You are leaving some big shoes to fill. What you have done is really appreciated. I think the Lady Winds program has reached a point of reloading for the next season. We have nine letterman that will return, along with JV players that are ready to move up and there is more help coming in the upcoming freshmen class. We plan on being good again next spring.”
