FLOYDADA – The Whirlwinds basketball program has been active under new Marc Puente this summer by playing in camps the past two weekends and in summer league to begin on Tuesday.

Floydada finished 2-2 at the Littlefield Shootout on May 28 at Wildcat Gym. The Whirlwinds
defeated Morton and Muleshoe, while falling to Olton and Littlefield.

At Wayland’s camp on Saturday the Whirlwinds went 3-4. The wins were against Eastland, Texline and Roosevelt. The losses were to Frenship, Trinity Christian, Childress and Olton. The setback
to Olton was decided in overtime.

“I am proud of these kids’ dedication to the team during the summer. There is lots of room for
improvement, but there is evidence of getting better,” expressed Puente.

This summer Floydada will be part of 10-team league that plays every Tuesday in either Petersburg or Tahoka. The league consists of Ralls, Smyer, Whiteface, Post, Plains, Denver City, Crosbyton, Ropes, Tahoka, Petersburg and Floydada.

This fall the Whirlwinds will return their entire starting lineup from a 22-win team that finished as the runner-up of District 4-2A.
