FLOYDADA – The new-look Lockney Longhorns football team made a good first impression on Thursday night to start off three consecutive weeks of 7-on-7 action at Charles Tyer Stadium.
With sophomore quarterback Dyllan Thiebaud at the reins the Longhorns defeated the Ralls Jackrabbits 15-6 and battled the Floydada Whirlwinds to a 0-0 tie. Ralls edged Floydada 6-0 in the remaining game of the evening. Crosbyton was planning to be a part of the weekly competition, but the Chiefs are reported to be without a head coach at the moment.
The 7-on-7 games are played with a 30-minute running clock. The games are 100-percent passing with no running plays permitted. The contests are also played without the kicking game, and since it is flag football there is no blocking or tackling involved.
The 7-on-7 games will continue the next two Thursday nights of June 16 and 23. It begins at 6pm each time and will continue to held at Charles Tyer Stadium.
