LOCKNEY – If these is one word to describe Lockney Longhorns football for 2022, it is “new.” There is a new head football coach in Jonathan Thiebaud; multiple new players since 14 Longhorns graduated in May; and six new opponents on this fall’s schedule.
Thiebaud took over the reins of Lockney High School athletics this spring when it was announced he was the new Head Football Coach and Athletic Director. He was elevated from being the defensive coordinator in 2021 when Lockney finished with a 7-4 record and in the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Thiebaud will have many new positions to fill in the Longhorns lineup due to the large graduating class of football player this May. This group were significant pieces of Lockney winning seven games in each of the past two campaigns.
The six new opponents that Longhorns will square off with on their 2022 schedule includes the Seagraves Eagles, Abilene Texas Leadership Eagles, and West Texas-Stinnett Comanches in non-district action. Lockney’s new district is 3-2A-II that has three new opponents in the Sudan Hornets, Hale Center Owls and Bovina Mustangs.
One game is far from being new, it is the annual Floyd County Championship showdown with the Floydada Whirlwinds on September 2 at Charles Tyer Stadium. Other repeat opponents from the previous two years include the Plains Cowboys, Ralls Jackrabbits, and Crosbyton Chiefs.
