LOCKNEY – Lockney ISD Athletic Director Jonathan Thiebaud has confirmed that Cody Brewer will be the Longhorns new baseball coach next spring. Brewer replaces Peyton Rhodes, who has stepped away from education according to Thiebaud.

Brewer comes to Lockney after being the head football coach at Cotton Center the previous two seasons. Brewer coached multiple sports while at Cotton Center for four years. He coached with the baseball program at Kress with Shawn Langston prior to working at Cotton Center. “One of the recommendations to us for Coach Brewer was from Wayland baseball coach Todd Weldon,” declared Thiebaud.

Brewer is a native of Perryton and was a multi-sport athlete for the Rangers in his high school days.

The Longhorn baseball team is coming off a very successful campaign in 2022 of advancing to the Region 1-2A Quarterfinals and finished with a very respectable 20-9 record.

“I am very excited about being the Lockney baseball coach. I want to continue to build on their success,” Brewer expressed with enthusiasm.

Brewer’s wife Shaney works in the admissions office at Wayland. They have three children of ages five, three and one.

A few weeks ago Lockney hired a new boys basketball coach in Chris Mann from LaPryor, Texas. An announcement on the new Lady Horns basketball coach should be forthcoming, possibly next week.
