Gale King

Gale Myrnita (Emert) King, 73, of Floydada, Texas, passed away on May 29th, 2022. Gale was born on October 17th, 1948 in Pierre, South Dakota, but grew up in Dougherty, Texas. She was a class of 1967 graduate of Floydada High School. While spending some time in Vernon, Gainesville, and Roaring Springs, Gale spent most of her life as a resident of Floyd County. Gale was raised with Christian values and embraced the Lord’s teachings. Gale’s final career before retirement was in service of the area’s youth, working in the Floydada Junior High School cafeteria as a cook and later cafeteria manager. She will be remembered for her wonderful cooking, dedication to her work, resourcefulness in all aspects of life, and constant focus to provide a good life for her son.

Gale is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Sherman King of Vernon, and parents Oliver Emert of Floydada and Helen (Hall) Emert of Dougherty. Gale was a sibling to eight: Bud, Bernice, Danny, Billy, Bobby, Barbara, Butch, and Oliver Junior. Gale is survived by her son, Michael Sherman King Junior of Floydada, and dear friend and sister-in-law Tisha Emert of Valley View.

Per Gale’s wishes, a former funeral ceremony will not be held. Cremation services were handled by Agape Funeral Chapel. Those wishing to do something in Gale’s memory are encouraged to donate to a feline rescue organization of their choice. Michael wishes to thank UMC Health System, Hospice of the South Plains, Aunt Tisha, and his friends and coworkers at Floydada Collegiate ISD for their support of him and his mother during this difficult time.
